Share Your Story: How Has Evolutionary Thinking Changed How You See Mental Health?

For Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, we're collecting short video testimonials from people whose understanding of mental health has been shaped by evolutionary thinking.

We want to hear from you – whether you're a clinician, a patient, a carer, or simply someone who has found this perspective meaningful.

What we're looking for:

A short video (30 seconds to 3 minutes) in which you share, in your own words:

  • How evolutionary thinking has changed the way you understand your own mental health, or that of someone you care about

  • How it has shifted your approach to patients or clients, if you work in mental health

  • What this perspective has meant to you – personally, professionally, or both

You don't need professional equipment. A smartphone recording is perfectly fine. What matters is your voice and your story.

Why we're doing this:

Evolutionary psychiatry remains a minority perspective. One of the most powerful ways to spread awareness is through real stories from real people – not just academics, but patients, families, and frontline clinicians.

Your testimonial could help someone else discover this way of thinking for the first time, and help draw attention to the field’s potential for making progress in an area whcih has remained stagnant for far too long.

How to submit:

By submitting, you give FEMH permission to use your video in our Mental Health Awareness Week campaign and on our website and social media channels. We may edit for length, but we will not alter your words or meaning. If you have any questions, contact us at evolutionandmentalhealth@gmail.com.

Thank you for helping us share the evolutionary perspective with a wider audience.
